And Saturday they had fun helping Beau move his Camaro. It's a work in process, but the boys loved it.
There’s a blog that I love to read and every Monday she does a Memorial Box Monday post. It's http://aplacecalledsimplicity.blogspot.com/ I've thought about starting it several times, and even wrote a couple out, but just haven’t posted them yet. But today is the day. . . . . .
During Lent I've been reading daily meditation, and this is one from last week: So Moses reminded them how important it was that they not forget the great works of the Lord in their past. He warned them not to let these things “slip from your memory as long as you live, but teach them to your children and to your children’s children” (Deuteronomy 4:9). Isn’t it amazing how easy it can be to forget, in the day-to-day grind, all that God has done for us? That’s why it’s helpful to step back from time to time and review both our personal history and the sweep of salvation history. Why not start today? Make a list of the times when you knew without a doubt that God was working. It may be a time when you didn’t know which path you should take, but then suddenly it all made sense. It may be a time when you felt God help you address a wounded relationship. It may be a time of prayer or at Mass when you felt especially close to the Lord. If you set these blessings firm in your memory, you will be able to draw on them in times of challenge. When you find yourself questioning God’s love, you can recall them to help you dispel the doubt. When you are burdened by a trial, you can still know that God is with you, guiding you by his unseen hand. Never let his blessings “slip from your memory”!
So, here it is, my very first Memorial Box this Monday, and it happened just last Thursday.
Thursday morning it was pretty foggy so as I was already driving careful and was thinking that I need pay even more attention to the road . . . put the coffee cup in the cup holder, wait until we got off the gravel road before giving Noah his spelling words. . . . . About that time I happen to see a deer in the pasture to my right. I just said 'oh crap' and slowed down even more. The boys were like “what?” I said “there’s a deer”. They didn’t even see him until he took off running parallel to us. I then noticed a doe on my left side and knew she was going to cross a few yards in front of us, so I was going slow down even more. As she got to the other side she was spooked by the other deer and started running directly to us. I just stopped in the middle of the road and we watched and wondered what to do. She went back to the left side of the road, crossed to the right again, straight at us again, then back in the other direction. I don’t know why she was so spooked, we see deer in this area all the time and they usually just watch us drive by. The boys were laughing and asked what she’s doing and why we’re stopping. I explain that a deer will run straight in to you; just because you have this big vehicle and are standing still doesn’t mean that she won’t run smack dab into ya. They got quiet at this point so I told them, “ok, y’all know what we have to do”. . . . they both said “pray” and made the sign of the cross and said a prayer and we started going down the road again. And the deer were gone. I don’t know what direction they went, but we didn’t see them anywhere. I asked the boys if they just saw how God was with us. Noah said “yeah, that was awesome!” Yes, He is awesome - - - I love it when He makes his presence so obvious that an 11 year old and 5 year old see it as plan as day. So I will find a little deer figure to remind us of this.
